AOK: the new three-letter word
Thursday, 04 February 2010 07:52
We've all experienced it: You learn a new word, and then, as if from the book of Merriam-Webster's Miracles, you hear it everywhere. Well, that's how I feel with the local poetry scene and me. OK, call the hyperbole police on me, but given that the term "fate" means nothing to me, this is as close an explanation as I can conjure.
Yesterday, I was the guest performer for the season premier of Rouge Poetry nights (think the musical performance on each episode of Saturday Night Live that reminds you to change the channel). Invited there by the Breath in Poetry Collective (who are currently looking to form a local Slam Poetry Team, so join the eff up!), the show went really well and the audience was very kind, very receptive. I'm always so glad to perform for an audience that doesn't merely consist of 20 other rappers and their five collective girlfriends. So, thanks again poetry heads.
Anyway, here's the serendipitous part: Today I was invited by one of Edmonton's finest poets/rappers/handsome men, The Joe, to perform at a showcase of exceptionally poetic rappers during the local Poetry Festival, which occurs across the city for one week. So, come see me and other rappers like Joe beg for your approval at The Artery (9535 Jasper Ave.) on April 23. That is all.
